Lionel Messi, the flag star, was born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina on June 24, 1987. He is an Argentine football player and a striker. He currently works for Barcelona Football Club.

In 2000, Messi joined the Barcelona Flag Club. In 2005, Argentina Youth Team won the World Youth Championship, Messi won the Golden Globe and Golden Boot Awards. On April 18, 2007, Messi duplicated Maradona’s five-man goal in the World Cup semi-final against Getafe. Messi won the gold medal with Argentina in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In 2011, Messi won the first FIFA Golden Globe Award and the best player in Europe.

In 2013, he won the third European Golden Boot Flag Cup with 46 League goals. In 2014, Messi joined Argentina in the 2014 Brazilian World Cup. Brazil won the runner-up in the World Cup in 2014. On December 20, 2014, Messi was awarded the Best Flag Award of the World Professional League in 2013 by IFFHS. In June 2016, after three consecutive defeats, Messi officially announced that he would withdraw from the Argentine national team. On August 13, Messi officially returned to the Argentine national team.

In September 2018, Messi won the gold medal with Argentina at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games when he was selected as FIFA’s best team of the year. In 2013, he won the third European Golden Boot Award with 46 League goals. In 2014, Messi joined Argentina in the 2014 Brazilian World Cup. Brazil won the runner-up in the World Cup in 2014. On December 20, 2014, Messi was awarded the Best Shooter Award of the World Professional League by IFFHS. In August 2015, he was elected the best flag star award of the European Super Cup.

On November 24, 2017, Messi received the European Flag Award for the 2016-17 season, which is his fourth European Golden Boot Award, and four European Golden Boots equalled Ronaldo’s record.
